We all go through phases where our self-confidence takes a hit. Whether it’s because of changes in our body, challenging life events, or just the everyday pressures of society, rebuilding self-confidence can feel like an uphill battle. I've been there! But trust me, you can get that confidence back. You deserve to feel empowered in your own skin, and there are some real, actionable ways to start that process. Here are five ways to begin rebuilding your self-confidence, including a way you might not have considered — a boudoir photo shoot.
1. Practice Daily Affirmations
Yes, I know it might sound a little cliché, but affirmations work. The words we speak to ourselves matter, and they have real power in shaping how we feel about ourselves. Start small by picking one or two affirmations that really resonate with you. Say them to yourself every morning when you wake up. A couple of my favorites are, "I am worthy of love just as I am" and "My body is strong and capable." Stick with it, even if it feels weird at first. Slowly but surely, you’ll begin to internalize these truths and they’ll become a natural part of your thought process.
2. Surround Yourself with Positive Influences
Your environment plays a huge role in how you feel about yourself. Take a look at the people you spend the most time with — are they building you up or tearing you down? Same goes for social media. If you're scrolling through your feed and constantly seeing images that make you feel “less than,” it might be time to hit the unfollow button. Surround yourself with friends, family, and online communities that encourage and uplift you. Your self-confidence can’t thrive in a toxic environment, but it can absolutely grow when you're surrounded by people who remind you of your worth.
3. Do Something That Scares You (In a Good Way!)
Sometimes, the best way to rebuild self-confidence is to step outside your comfort zone. Is there something you’ve been avoiding because you’re scared it won’t go perfectly? It’s time to do it. Whether it’s speaking up in a meeting, signing up for a class you’ve been curious about, or traveling somewhere new, challenging yourself helps build that inner voice that says, “I can do hard things.” Facing your fears head-on, even if they’re small, will slowly help you trust in your own abilities. I did this last year by booking a photo shoot where I held a tarantula! I'm scared of spiders, but I wanted to prove to myself that I am capable of doing hard things, and it was so worth it. Do the scary thing!
4. Book a Boudoir Photo Shoot
Okay, hear me out. You might think boudoir photo shoots are just about lingerie and posing, but I promise you, they’re about so much more than that. Boudoir is an incredible way to reconnect with your body and see yourself through a completely different lens — literally! For a lot of people, it’s a transformative experience. You get to step outside your day-to-day routine, embrace your beauty, and feel empowered in a way that can be life-changing.
I’ve worked with countless people who’ve left their boudoir sessions feeling renewed and confident, seeing themselves in a light they hadn’t before. It’s an investment in yourself — one that allows you to honor your body and recognize the incredible, unique person that you are. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone or just need a confidence boost, boudoir can be a powerful tool for healing and empowerment.
5. Take Care of Your Body, But on Your Terms
It’s easy to think that rebuilding self-confidence has to be about weight loss or looking a certain way, but it’s not about that at all. It’s about taking care of your body in a way that feels good for you. Move in ways that make you feel joyful — whether that’s yoga, dancing, hiking, or simply stretching. Zumba used to be how I chose to care for my body, but when chronic pain set in, I had to pivot to walking and stretching. I want to get back to dance, but for now, my terms for caring for my body need to be more gentle. Also, nourish your body with food that fuels you, but also indulge in things that bring you joy. When you start viewing movement and nourishment as ways to care for yourself rather than punish yourself, the shift in confidence will follow.
Remember, your body is your home, and it deserves love and kindness.
Self-confidence isn’t built overnight, but these five steps are a great start to feeling more like yourself again. Start small, be patient with yourself, and celebrate the wins, no matter how tiny they might seem. And if you’re ready for that transformative boudoir experience to help you see yourself in a whole new way, let’s chat. You deserve to feel empowered and confident in your own skin, and I’d love to help you along that journey.
