Why I Only Shoot Boudoir

You’ve probably noticed by now that I only photograph boudoir (although I enjoy taking head shots here and there). There aren’t any links on my website that take you to another photography site I own. There aren’t wedding pictures or family moments in my portfolio. I exclusively shoot boudoir, which has its pros and cons. Most photographers survive by providing a variety of services, and even if their boudoir business is separate, they still work on weddings or senior pictures. That’s fine and dandy, and more power to those business owners. But it isn’t for me, and here’s why:

I Want Every Session to be a Party

I want to have fun during photo shoots, don’t you? I’m sure weddings or senior sessions are fun in their own way, but for me, I love having the stability of a studio session in a space I know well. We can be loud, we can say literally anything we want, and we’re not concerned with getting in anyone else’s way because the studio is my space. And if I missed a killer pose, it’s ok – I’ll just ask you to do it again! That’s hard to do with a first kiss during a wedding or getting a baby to smile for family photos. Plus, I love pumping in music and attempting to twerk, which really can only happen during a boudoir shoot.

Boudoir is my Way to Give Back to Women

I’ve struggled a lot with self image and I know plenty of women who have, as well. I see these women kicking butt at their jobs, being amazing wives or girlfriends, raising children, and, let’s be real, running the world. I can’t do anything spectacular or magical to suddenly make the lives of all these women easier, but I can help them feel a little bit better about the bodies they have; the bodies that grew human beings, the bodies that ran marathons, the bodies that explored new countries, or the bodies that overcame illness. If I can help kick ass women feel better about those bodies, then that’s what I’m going to do.

Anyone Can Help You Feel Pretty. I Want to Heal

To me, boudoir is a celebratory way to heal the hurt and hate your feel towards your body. Boudoir is about so much more than feeling pretty or even sexy. A boudoir portrait session with me is about overcoming years of low self-esteem or self-loathing. A boudoir session isn't magic. It can't cure all, but it's a start, and that's why I love it.
