5 Things You Should NOT Do Before Your Boudoir Session

Preparing for your boudoir session is exciting, a little nerve-wracking, and full of anticipation. There’s a lot you can do to feel confident and ready, but today we’re talking about what not to do. These five common missteps could leave you feeling uncomfortable or less than your best. Let’s keep that from happening!

1. Don’t Get a Spray Tan (Unless You Know What You're Doing)
I know it’s tempting to want that golden glow, but spray tans can be unpredictable unless you go somewhere you really, REALLY trust. They often show up unevenly on camera or rub off on studio furniture, sheets, or lingerie. Your natural skin tone is beautiful as it is, and it photographs beautifully. Trust me on this one. Skip the spray tan.
2. Don’t Try New Skincare or Hair Removal Routines
Now is not the time to test out a new face mask, chemical peel, or waxing method. Your skin might react with redness, breakouts, or irritation. Stick with what you know works for your body and skin. Your boudoir session should feel empowering, not uncomfortable.
3. Don’t Drink Alcohol the Night Before
A glass of wine might sound like a good idea to calm your nerves, but alcohol can lead to puffy skin, dehydration, and lower energy. Hydrate instead! Your body will thank you, and you’ll feel more refreshed and alert during your shoot.

4. Don’t Chew Your Nails
This one might sound small, but your hands show up in a lot of photos. Ragged nails or chewed cuticles can be distracting in close-ups. If a full manicure isn’t your thing, just make sure your nails are clean, filed, and moisturized.
5. Don’t Overbook Your Day
Give yourself time and space to breathe. Rushing from errands to the studio will only add stress. Your session is meant to be a celebration of you. Build in time to relax, get ready at your own pace, and mentally check in before stepping in front of the camera.
Your session at Buxom Boudoir should be joyful, empowering, and comfortable from start to finish. Avoiding these common pitfalls will help you feel more present and confident when it’s your time to shine!
